Meet The Conflicted Minimalist
My name is Rachel and I’m The Conflicted Minimalist.
My ideal is the minimalist aesthetic of the last mid-century. Clean, spare, light-filled and highly impractical. My reality, is compact, frequently cluttered though spacious by NYC standards. In this way, I see the glass as simultaneously half full while half empty. My dichotomy is balancing the beautiful with a quest for space.
Well that’s the me you’ll meet on this blog.
You might recognize my name from my award-winning books Career and Corporate Cool and Hello Gorgeous! Beauty Products in America ’40s-’60s, or from the weekly column that I created and write for Mint.com, MintStyle, or maybe from articles I’ve written for top media outlets. I’m also regularly quoted about business and style and the business of style in publications ranging from the Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, to Glamour Magazine and the AP. You might recognize my face from appearances as a trends, business and style expert on TV shows like Good Morning America, ABC News, The Today Show and a documentary on The Sundance Channel or as the work style expert for People Style Watch. I’m also a marketing strategist and president of Interrobang® LLC (formerly [GTK] Marketing Group) working with companies like Microsoft, Dansko Shoes, The Gossip Girl book and TV series, Dreamworks, Links of London, L’Oreal, Procter and Gamble, Yale University among others and celebrities including Christina Aguilera. I’ve lead personal branding workshops at New York University on the graduate level, Lectured about the history of cosmetic and fragrance marketing at the Fashion Institute of Technology Master’s Program and lead business etiquette workshops for Fortune 100 companies.
